Krewe of Palmetto held the 7th annual Mardi Gras Golf Cart Parade on February 20 at Palmetto Island State Park. Organizers would like to thank all of the dedicated participants who come out every year. They are inviting more riders to make 2025 'one of the best and biggest State Parks' parades'. Next years parade will be held on **March 1, 2025**. This year's theme was Sparkle in Denim and Diamonds, 27 golf carts took part and 30 campsites received door prizes. Friends of Palmetto would like to thank Shawn, Christine and the rest of the Krewe for putting this event together.
In true Krewe of Palmetto fashion this event was a HIT! The weather was great! The kids really enjoy hunting for hand painted Mardi Gras and 50's style themed rocks hidden around the campground. I'm sure they love the prizes too. This year The Krewe showed a little appreciation for the adults too and gave away a few door prizes. The honors of royalty were bestowed upon James Menard as King Cake VI and Belinda Landry as Queen Moon Pie VI. Both have been attending the event for years and camp at Palmetto Island every chance they get. This years theme incorporated a Jitterbug contest. Four entries danced for everyone! 1st place went to Tissa Mathews of Kaplan and Micheal Fontenot of Lafayette; 2nd place went to Denise and Leni Broussard of Abbeville and 3rd place was awarded to Norma and Roy Young of Lake Charles. The parade consisted of 25 golf carts! Not to bad for a half full campground due to new the campground sewer project. If you've never attended this event, do yourself a favor and make a campsite reservation as soon as you can. The park will be Sparkling with Denim and Diamonds.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions Krewe of Palmetto couldn't host the annual Golf Cart Parade and replaced it with a Campsite Decorating Contest.
The weather was COLD, but that didn't stop Palmetto Island State Park patrons from showing their Mardi Gras spirit!
